(And yes, I am a tiny bit concerned that so many of my conversations begin with that sentence.)
But see? It's cool. But alas, this garden ornament is not being sold on the first day of November. I can't imagine why.
But I did begin to imagine how I could make my own, at absolutely no cost.
Wouldn't you know it, a tutorial exists. All you need are some old bands from whiskey barrel planters, nuts, bolts, washers and a good drill.
And I have all those!
I tried to drill through the rings, but it just wasn't going to happen. Not for me, anyway.
However, this guy was able to do it. In his work clothes, no less. And during lunch.
He's not very camera shy.
So then I was able to fasten them together, using some extra nuts as spacers for the larger ring.
And that's what we had once lunchtime was over.
After work, drilled through and fastened the other end and then we added the fourth ring around the circumference of the other three, again using spacers.
I love it in all it's not quite round and imperfect glory.
That outside ring actually spins!
It's not really a lot like the pinterest orb, but it's rusty and
it was free.
So I'm OK with it.
Thanks for reading!
(And yes, I am done with beet harvest~YAY!)

That is very cool! Free is always good.
Wow, this is so strange. I have 12 barrel rings and spent an hour yesterday trying to figure out how to cut them and drill a hole to do a project of my own. I think I may give up, however I saw your blog post and saw that you did not give up. Your orb looks awesome.
I love these. I made one about four years ago and mounted it on a length of pipe. I put it in my plant pot by the house for some visual excitement in the winter. Now it stays there year round. Good Job!!
I think it is pretty awesome! What a fun piece to move around your home and garden!
Looks wonderful, looks like you have a very handsome and handy husband...they are worth their weight in gold! Have a wonderful week....are potatoes next up at the weigh scale, or have they been done?
I'm so envious - I had saved old whiskey barrel rings for years to make one exactly like this, but hubby finally threw them out before I got around to it - he's not NEARLY as supportive as yours! Looks GREAT!
That give "coming home for lunch" a whole new meaning if you get my drift!
GREAT JOB~ xo Diana
What a cool chandelier this would be...just put a large candle on the bottom and hang it froma gazebo, maybe?
Love this!

your orb looks fabulous!

Yup, because there is nothing sexier than a man who uses a drill on his lunch hour.
Bliss
DIY project on his lunch hour, in his work clothes - awesome
I think an art show is in the works. This piece could be called "Tumbleweed".
Gentle he would be, denied he would not.
