I scored this vintage crib at an estate sale Saturday. I was excited about it because the rails along the sides are spaced very narrowly and the paint is lead free~no safety issues! Plus, it's just adorable. I might not even paint it. Just add some clear coat.
And then there's this. My husband went hunting a few weeks ago and brought it back for me. I'm not sure what I'll do with it.
Some people paint them.
I prefer them white. I thought I'd try bleaching it.
(and if I had two of them, I'd mount them like that. But this particular elk wasn't considerate enough to shed both antlers on the same hill.)After reading up on that process, I changed my mind about that. No one really recommends it because bleach can ruin the antlers. So I'll probably leave mine au naturale. Maybe I'll use it as a centerpiece with some candles and pinecones for Christmas. After a good scrubbing. Thanks for reading!

Hi Suzanne, I have quite a few antler sheds, and I wired one of them into a handle for a wire basket I made..still love it..I would leave them natural as well...with some fall leaves, acorns on a big wood slab, it would make a wonderful fall table decoration! ❤
We need to go shopping together. I always love the things you pick up. That crib is so sweet. Leave as is.
I also love the antler, I wish my husband was a hunter so I could have one. I think it would be pretty in your home with candles and pinecones. I just recenly pinned a picture where an antler was use to hang chrismtas stocking on a mantel. really cool. You can see that on my Christmas pin board.
Love the antlers. Very natural and rustic! I have never heard about bleaching them! I have a pair of antlers myself and thought about painting them white but when I heard bleaching that sounded like a better idea...... Until you said it could ruin them. Oh well. Also that's a great crib! How do you know there is no lead in the paint.
Score! I love that sweet crib just the way it is! I wish I had room for a crib in our house. Those pack and play things remind me of a cage. It's no wonder babies don't sleep well in them!
I am glad you are not going to paint the antler. That is not my favorite look. And what a sweet little yellow crib. How very precious-xo Diana
Elk? I'm jealous. Lots of deer around here and if I was lucky, maybe a moose antler. Once, walking along the road, I found a deer skull which I hung in my downstairs bath. Of course, my family shook their heads...
My guest room has antlers as a towel holder. Al la naturale.
