Old Photo Window Valance

While Suzanne the Sugar Beet Lady is holding down the sweet beet fort at the weigh station, I'm lucky enough to be one of her guests.  I'm so tickled about it, that I did a quick easy window redo just for Meridian Road.

I'm Bliss from Bliss Ranch and if you stop at the ranch you'll find some furniture redo's, Fall crafts, and what ever I feel like blogging about on any given day.  I  always find something I want to copy here at Meridian Road.   I can thank Suzanne as the inspiration for my family first aid kit, (which has been getting way too much use lately).

Can't you just see Miss Sugar Beet decorating her little corner of the weigh station?  While she is making her little area look homey I decided to perk up my little corner too.  I spend weigh way to much time by my computer with one lone bare window dressed only in a mini blind. Probably a lot like her weigh station with that description.

The window needed a valance, there was a rod there waiting in anticipation. About 15 years ago I picked up a box at a garage sale and it had some vintage photos inside.  I couldn't throw them out, so I hung 'em high instead.  

I find the hair doo on the groom funny.  He has a highway down the middle, but he's not bald.  Maybe it's a reverse mohawk?  Maybe he's a clown when he isn't getting hitched.  Maybe it's just humidity, something like that happens to me too.

This was quick and easy to do.  I had some clips in a drawer so I just strung them on the rod and clipped the vintage photos to it.  Doesn't get much simpler than that.

These were all real people, and I'm pretty sure they never thought 100 years ago that they would one day hang as a window treatment in someone's home.  Makes me wonder what will become of all the pictures of me!

Maybe The Last Yard Sale

My daughter and I hit some sales last weekend. 

Most of our yard sales disappear when it gets cold. I don't think there will be many more.

 I got this clock, and started to paint it before I got a picture of it. It's kind of banged up and the finish wasn't very nice, but I liked the shape.

And I really liked the little key cabinet. 

I'm going to try to sell this one, so I just went with a soft antique white, but distressed it pretty heavily.

 If you want some great chips~just don't prime those spots. I just scraped the paint off the door with a metal spatula.

 Then I waxed it with a brown paste wax. Which might have to come off. I'm trying to decide.

There are several local Facebook groups that sell their stuff online. I thought I'd try there. No shipping! 

And if it doesn't sell and I have to keep it? I won't be all that sad about it!

I'll have to see what the guys think when they get home....My husband does want an old wooden airplane propellor to put on a wall.

The hubs and I went for a drive before I started work. We ended up here.

And in completely unrelated news, I'm starting a new collection. File drawers. They're cheap, they're easy to paint, and they store an awful lot of crap supplies.

Something To Match

Today I'm working~weighing trucks. The days are LOOOONG and it's relentless. I'm tired already. I sit in a small scale house day after day, and it gets old. Last year, I gave the scale house clock a makeover just so there would be something cute to look at. 

But now it's easier to watch the clock.   We have a new scale house this year, and there was no place to hang a jacket.

So I made a matching coatrack.  (I didn't really want leaves coming out of that hook. But I had to cover up a hole. I misjudged the distance between hooks. I might have mentioned my aversion to measuring~that's one of the drawbacks. More mistakes than a normal, measurement loving person would make.)

This is my favorite side.  The guys out there might not appreciate it, but I'm pretty sure the girls will.  Thanks for reading!

An Air Gauge And An Important Message

So someone asked me in the comments what it is that the candle is sitting on. 

(yes, that is a sleeping young man on my couch. I told him if he didn't move, he'd end up on my blog. He was too tired to care.) It's this. An old air gauge. I thought the crescent moon on the end of that needle was so cool, so I bought it when I spotted it at an antique store.  (I've been looking for others in different sizes, but so far all I've found was one that was HUGE! It weighed about 40 pounds and they wanted $110 for it, so that one stayed at the store. I had no idea where I'd put a 40 pound air gauge anyway.) I've been getting more and more comments from people who are listed as no-reply. I just read that when a person switches to Google+, you'll show up as a no-reply. The Cute That Didn't Happen

I saw a cute card table makeover on Pinterest. Really, really cute. 

I remembered I have an old card table

and that card tabe has little clamps underneath 

so that you can take the top off and change the cover on the table top. 

(It's almost like the makers expected people to change the cover! Like they want people to have choices. Who are these people and are they making anything now? I wish I knew.)

My original plan was to paint the metal legs and sides white and add this cute fabric with some clear plastic on top of it.

But then I really looked at the sides.I love the chips and the worn spots and even that little bit of rust. 

("Well, crap." I said. "I can't paint that white! I just can't. I'm going to have to choose cool over cute.")

So I changed directions. I used a black and cream ticking fabric. I realize that mattress ticking has fallen out of favor with the trendsetters of the blogosphere, but

I've never really considered myself a trendsetter. Besides, the ticking strips just go with the table. End of story. 

I do have another old card table. A less cool card table. Maybe that one can be cute.

I Love Hand-Me-Down Junk

One of my good friends got tired of this high chair.
