Where Are They?

Where have all the decor shows gone?
Remember "Sensible Chic"?
And "Double Take"?
They'd show you how to get rooms like this for less.
I loved those shows.
And all the craft shows? I liked those, too.
I really think HGTV, and even DIY are really missing the boat.
Would someone who may be dealing with unemployment, or who lives in a neighborhood where every third house is empty really want to watch "House Hunters International"?
I don't think so. I think they'd rather watch shows that feature inexpensive crafts or decorating on a budget.
Something they can really do.
Because buying a house in Spain is just not going to happen.
But that's just my opinion.

This is kind of fun, though.
 Rehab Addict.
It premiered on the DIY network on Thursday, and I caught a replay last night.
This woman restores old homes, and it's  kind of fun to watch. It is a real estate centered show.(Which there are plenty of. But this one didn't irritate me.) The house was so cool I kept watching this one.
The house coming up is really great, too.

Thanks for reading!

I'm half way through with beet harvest!
YAY!

Suzanne, I totally agree with you. It started a couple of years ago. The craft and decorating shows started disappearing. I don't get it either. It is all real estate related shows, all the time. Especially when "craft" and "design" has become so sophisticated. Craft is (at least on the blogs I visit) so NOT kitchy these days. I look at my inspiration folder and I see a whole lifetime of new shows that could be made. Maybe the audience isn't there on the TV medium, but it is thriving out here in blog land. I find myself watching less TV anyway!

If I turn on HGTV one more time and see "Holmes on Homes" I think I'll scream!!! I agree...more decorating shows! But I have to disagree with you on House Hunters...I feel like Big Brother and can see what's inside of the homes.

I totally agree! ;)

I agree...first the good magazines started disapearing and then the t.v. shows. Now all we have are wonderful blogs like yours. Hope you have lots of ideas stored up for after the work detail!!!! It's going to be a long winter:)

I was just thinkin the same thing the other day. I miss those kinds of shows!!! I'm sick to death of all the real estate shows... I hardly watch HGTV anymore.

I completely agree with you. Some of those DIY shows are so completely unrealistic and out of the financial reach of most people, that they have become a real bore to watch.

I do agree, I miss the decorating shows. Design on a Dime was always good. I actually got a call from one that I applied for. Surprise by Design is what I think it was called. I had to send in a video of the basement I wanted to do for my husband. I didn't make the final cut but it was fun trying.

I do like Homes by Holmes because he at least shows you how things are supposed to be done correctly. I've learned stuff from him.

I agree with you. While I do love Property Virgins and will watch it whenever it's on, I've moved past that phase and really want to see more design shows to help spark my own creativity when it comes to decorating our own house.

I couldn't agree more with you. Now what can we do about it? I hardly even turn on HGTV anymore. I miss little Miss Kitty Bartholemew (sp?) and some of the others. I can't believe that HGTV has near the viewers they used to because of the type of shows they now air. So dissapointing!

I can't remember the name of the show, but it was a fix-it show, with the most even-toned man showing how to do home repairs. He wore a tool belt and rated the jobs by hammers (1 hammer, easiest, 4 hammers, hardest). For some reason I could listen to him all day. I watch house hunters when I'm mad. How can some of those people afford those houses??!?!? Well, this just means that next year you won't be working with the beets, Suzanne, you MUST get your own show even if it is broadcast via internet. We will all watch!

You are correct. I'm not buying a summer home in the Bahamas either. They used to have a show called Country Style or something like that that I loved to watch. I do enjoy watching Renovation Realities which is a hoot but that's about it and TLC has no decorating shows at all anymore. That's why I read the blogs!

Hi Suzanne! I used to be an HGTVaholic when there were decorating shows and craft shows. I loved Carol Duvall and all the other crafty ladies. Now all it's about is how to sell your house or watch someone else buy a house. I hardly ever turn it there anymore. Hope you have a great week! Twyla

Hi Suzanne! You hit the nail right on the head (pun intended). I miss all those wonderful decorating shows...especially the one where they would take the Inspiration room and do it on the cheap. I don't know who the powers-that-be are that are deciding this is what we want to see. I am afraid that I am in the minority but I don't even like the Holmes on Homes. I don't want to see the guts of the house- I don't care if it has termites...how does the covering look on the windows? I am starting to find him a bit annoying myself...but that's just me and I know lots of people adore him. And what ever happened to big muscular Roger and his dark haired sidekick that would do the house makeovers?

I hardly ever watch HGTV anymore and it used to be that it was on all the time-no matter what I was doing. Sad...sad...sad...

Glad you are half-way through with the BEETS...Are you going to be BEAT when you are done? Did you think you would BEAT me to the punch on that one...or do you just plain old want to BEAT me for even mentioning BEETS again?>) Hugs-Diana

WHAT?!? I haven't had those channels for awhile now so I'm totally out of the loop but I can't believe they are all being replaced with house-hunting/real estate shows! My favorite used to be Decorating Cents... is that still on?

You are right, where have they all gone? I guess we have to rely on blogland!

You're so right! Our blogging community should take a stand and petition for a show that stay at home moms, people who are struggling financially, or merely want to decorate for less, can watch and learn from! I also agree that House Hunters is on a little too much, ha! (I think I've seen every episode) I remember loving sensible chic, decorating cents, surprise by design and dare I say, trading spaces even got me intreguied (:

Amen. I think you are preaching to the choir here sister.
I can't stand watching those real estate shows and listening to YOUNG women who whine that the massive gourmet kitchen isn't big enough, or the counter tops aren't the right marble. Or? The walk in closet isn't big enough to host a party.
I don't even turn it on. Too many awesome blogs like yours for inspiration.

I agree! All the shows are about real estate essentially. The decorating shows are on during low volume hours. I really miss Sensible Chic. I'm dying for Secrets From a Stylist to come on and i still enjoy Color Splash, but overall it's about buying and selling a home. Unforatunately I don't get the DIY network. I am thankful for blogs!

I so agree with you! Besides property virgin and Income property I am so tire of the real state shows. I'm unemployed for pete's sake. The only thing I see about Decor is Candice Olsen- which I love. And I don't know why, but I hate House Hunters Int.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Sha! The people who can afford homes Internationally (2nd or 3rd homes, I might add) probably don't watch a lot of HGTV or International House Hunters. Ya know? I mean, people like that hire decorators. That show gets my goat. Do they air it to make humble people feel bad!?

Okay, now I'm just thinking we were separated at birth cause we think the same thoughts... yes, yes, yes... I'm sick of House Hunters International... and Holmes on Homes and all the other real estate type shows on HGTV... I really loved it about 4 years ago when it was Design on a Dime type improvement shows. Whoever is scouting for new shows is doing a HORRIBLE job over there!
