Things That Make Me Happy

This little girl. She is now two years old, and an absolute joy.
This little flower that no one noticed.
My mom and dad. They're such good people, and I'm lucky to have them.
This big flower that everyone noticed.
This spectacular sight. Mesa Falls. Absolutely gorgeous.

Life here has gotten complicated.
(A grown up word for "hard")
I'd like to say I'll be back and sharing all kinds of fun stuff, but I can't. I don't know what the next few months will bring.
I want to thank you all for your support and encouragement and your friendship. This has never been "just a blog" for me, and getting to know so many nice people through this blog has been so much fun.
I'll be honest, I won't be answering any comments~simply because I don't know what I'd say in a reply.

Thanks for reading, and take care.

Some Wedding Shabbiness

Have you seen this on Pinterest?
Gorgeous, right?
(You can buy the print on this website~AND!~go get your credit cards~you can get this on an Iphone case. Yeah, it's #1 on my list of wants.)
So the engaged one liked this a lot, and we racked our brains trying to decide how we could use something like this for her wedding reception.
 We came up with nada.
But I was in Hobby Lobby recently, and saw this. The first letter of what will be her new last name.
I had an idea. Some stain, some scrapbook paper, a sander, a little distress ink and
Voila! A fairly rough version. And I like it!
It's not a lot like the inspiration photo, actually.
But two more letters next to it with different paper would look pretty cool.
I hope she'll like it.

Garden Party Decor

I was asked to do some centerpieces for a garden party. 8 tables and a buffet table.
 The budget is $50.
Not a lot to work with, but I've done more on less.
My son made me these totes the other day to use on some of the tables. I already had enough for the other tables. All we had to buy were those metal clamps.
This is the basic idea. My guys liked it, but I'm sure I'll be tweaking it up until the party starts.
(I'll probably take out the rock, or cover it more with the moss. It gets windy here, and some weight will keep things from blowing away. So maybe I'll keep it. I don't know!)
There will be lots of flowers in the garden and I don't want to compete with that.

So that's what I'm obsessing over lately. What's occupying your mind?

See that big jar in the grainy photo? I love it. But look...
Beyond sad. All I will say is
I didn't do it. And I can't bring myself to throw it out until I find a replacement.
This is the closest I've found, and I will NOT pay that! Plus, I don't think it's as big as my poor cracked one.
Anyone know where I can find a replacement at a reasonable cost?

Miscellaneous Stuff

So my hubby went to check the oil in his truck not too long ago, and this is what he found.
It was sad, actually. We couldn't leave it there~we need do drive the truck on occasion, and the nest could catch on fire.
So we carefully relocated it to a nearby tree, but I haven't had the heart to go check on it.
On the thrifting front, I found these child sized folding chairs. There were 54 of them in the store, but since I couldn't think of a use for that many, I just bought 4. I believe they need to be 4 different colors.
Also, the concrete is poured, and the grass is planted.
 Imagine it swept~it looks great!
I'm still coming to terms with this one leaving the nest. I'm not sure how successful I am with it.
(isn't he handsome? My daughter took the photo. Her website can be found here.)
And this girl~she now has her degree.
I'm so proud of her!
(that's her fiance~I think they're such a cute couple!)
We saw our oldest son off to New York. He has a design internship there this summer. I'm really proud of him, too.

Next up~high school graduation, a family reunion, and a wedding!

Nothing Much

So our youngest has been busy.
He's putting in a new sidewalk for us. Among other things. The railroad ties are staying there and the concrete goes in the gaps. I think it's going to look GREAT!
Today is the day I married this guy,
27 years ago. We were 19 and on the dumb side.
Now we're older and (I hope) a little smarter. And he's still pretty much my all time favorite.

A Wedding Idea

Ever since I saw this picture on (where else?) Pinterest
I've wanted to do something similar. And I'm not really a lace person~but I think this is gorgeous. Since we have a wedding coming up, I thought maybe we could incorporate something like this in the decor.
I found some lace panels for sale on our local buy, sell and trade Facebook page. I walked away with five large pieces for a dollar each.
I also had this frame. I was going to use it for this
But it was much too big.
All I had to do was cut the lace to size and hot glue it to the frame.
Imagine this hanging on our porch
(with several others~maybe I'll use some old windows, too. I also have an old screen door...)
They'll be more in the background, but I think they'll fill in some bare spots very nicely.
But for now, it will hang in our master bath.
In other news, this young man will be graduating from high school in about a month.
He's my youngest.
I have mixed emotions about the empty nest, the next chapter in his life and ours....
So maybe I won't talk about that yet.

The Coolest Overnight Bag EVER!!!

So my second daughter is getting married.
(Yay! We're all so happy~her finance is a wonderful guy and they're a great match in every way.)
We were in a vintage clothing store looking for a wedding dress (because she's cool like that) and what did I spy?
This incredibly cool leather doctor's bag.
The outside has been around the block a few times, but the lining is perfect. I think that's what sold me on it.
Or maybe it was the brass fittings.
(Is it weird that things like that make my mouth water?
A little? Yeah. That's what I thought.)
It's the perfect size for all my hair and makeup stuff, so it came home with me.
All I had to do was give it a coat of mink oil. Now even my husband is jealous of it. I might have to find one for him, just so I can keep this one.

In A Weird Sort Of Way.

I ordered this cool eye chart/calendar thingy from Decor Steals. I LOVE it! But when I hung it up, it looked lonely. I found some other things to hang next to it, but wanted something cool to hang them with.
So I made some thumbtacks. They're just epoxy, tacks and vintage typewriter keys.
I know. Clearly, I have some time on my hands.
However, they're cool thumbtacks, so I won't apologize.
This is what I hung. An astigmatic test card and some vintage word strips along with the calendar.
I think they go together in a weird sort of way.
And it will be easy enough to change when I'm tired of it.
